Frederick Keys News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - DL Hall struck out 10 batters as the Frederick Keys (15-24, 44-64) took a 2-1 victory to sweep the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (20-21, 41-67) on Thursday night at TicketReturn.com Field. Hall (4-4) was exceptional, tying a career-high in strikeouts over six innings. The bullpen was strong once again, highlighted by Diogenes Almengo's (S, 9) four-out save. The win ties a season-high four-game winning streak and marks the first time the Keys have swept a road series this season.

Hall and Javier Assad (3-8) were locked in a pitcher's duel for the majority of the evening until the Keys got on the board in the fourth. Zach Jarrett was hit-by-a-pitch to lead off the inning and he swiped second base to put himself in scoring position. Robert Neustrom then singled up the middle to put runners on the corners.

The Keys almost botched the opportunity however, as Neustrom was caught stealing on a strikeout to bring the Pelicans within an out of escaping the inning. Instead, Patrick Dorrian came through again with an infield single that scored Jarrett to give the Keys a 1-0 lead.

Will Robertson's solo blast in the fifth inning put the Keys up 2-0 and that was all Hall needed. Hall retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced but the Pelicans struck back in the fifth. Wladimir Galindo doubled in Aramis Ademan but was thrown out trying to take home.

Hall allowed a pair of base runners in the sixth but worked out of a jam to end his outing. He struck out six batters the first time through the lineup as the Pelicans could only muster one run on three hits against him.

Meanwhile, the Keys bullpen held fast. Scott Burke struck out a pair in the seventh inning, but Kiernan Lovegrove struggled in his first appearance since July 3. He got two outs but walked three batters to load the bases. Almengo then came in to face Miguel Amaya, who flied out to right field to end the threat. Almengo pitched a shutdown ninth.

Assad took the loss after allowing the two runs on three hits. He walked a pair and struck out three in six innings of work.

The game featured six total hits and 24 strikeouts. Keys pitching was responsible for 15 of those.

The Keys head to Kinston, NC to take on Down East in a three-game series starting on Friday, August 2. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm, with pregame coverage starting at 6:45pm on frederickkeys.com and the Tune In radio app.
