Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf, MD., April 28th 2015)- The Blue Crabs get the timely hitting they need, while right-handed starter Jake Hale went seven innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out three, as the Blue Crabs take game two from the Long Island Ducks by the final of 3-1.
Hale was cruising, having not allowed a hit going into the top of the 5th when Cody Puckett singled to right center with one out. The Ducks would bang out just two more hits on the evening as Jake Hale allowed just three runners to reach.
Offensively, Southern Maryland took the striked first. Antone DeJesus led off the game with an infield single. Two batters later Jake Opitz singled allowing DeJesus to move up to third base. Cyle Hankerd then flied out to right field to score DeJesus from third and drive in his first run of the year.
Southern Maryland scored a run again in the 2nd inning. Zach Wilson led off the inning with a blistering single to center, his first hit of the year. Casey Stevenson then singled to right, and two batters later Casey Frawley drove in Wilson with a Sacrifice Fly, one of two sac flies on the night for Frawley, who drove in two runs overall on the night. The Blue Crabs would add a run in the 6th inning, and never look back.
Fernando Nieve pitched a scoreless 8th out of the bullpen, and Erik Hamren picked up his first save of the year, striking out three batters in the process in the top of the 9th inning.
The Blue Crabs and the Ducks will play game three of a four game set tomorrow night at Regency Furniture Stadium. LHP Mickey Jannis (0-0, 0.00) will start for Long Island, while LHP Brian Burres (0-0, 0.00) will take the hill for Southern Maryland. First pitch set for 7:05 P.M.
