Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish (2-2) defeated the Somerset Patriots (2-2) 4-1 Tuesday evening from Harbor Yard. All four Bluefish runs occurred with two outs as they won the series opener.
In the top of the first inning designated hitter Mat Gamel laced a RBI single to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.
Bridgeport evened the contest at 1-1 as pitcher Lucas Irvine threw a wild pitch that scored shortstop Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the third inning.
The Bluefish grabbed the lead in the home half of the fourth frame as second baseman Luis Rodriguez slapped a RBI double while shortstop Vargas sprayed a RBI single to make the score 3-1.
First baseman John Alonso smacked a RBI single to expand Bridgeport's lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Parker Frazier (1-0) earned the win tossing 5.2 innings of six hit, one run baseball. Lucas Irvine (0-1) sustained the loss hurling four frames while surrendering three runs. Tim Gustafson notched his first save of the year throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
