Hagerstown Suns News Release

They were down but not out. After falling behind for the first time all season, the Suns fought back from a four-run deficit to beat the Lakewood Blueclaws for their sixth straight win to start the 2005 season.

The starting pitching gave up runs, the Suns ran themselves out of a few innings, and the fielders committed two errors, but Hagerstown refused to quit.

After trailing for the first seven innings, the Suns tied the game at 6 in the eighth off a throwing error by Bradley Harman. And Corey Coles scored the winning run from third after a walkoff single by designated hitter Derran Watts.

The Blueclaws scored four runs in the top of the first with two outs on the board and used strong performances from starter Andrew Baldwin and reliever Nathan Johnson to keep the Suns in check.

Six different players scored for the Suns, who were awakened in the fifth inning with a three-run blast by right fielder Corey Coles.

It was just the second game that Coles played this season and he made the most of his opportunity with 3 hits, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Mike Carp made it two nights in a row with a homerun, getting the Suns on the board with a solo shot in the second inning.

Suns starter Gabriel Hernandez recovered after surrendering four runs in the first inning, and relievers Mike Devaney and Carlos Muniz combined to keep the game close with Muniz picking up his first win of the year.
