CHARLESTON, SC -- Shortstop Marcos Vechionacci and DH Ben Jones each had two hits and three RBI to lead the Charleston RiverDogs to a 7-6 comeback win over the Columbus Catfish in South Atlantic League action Monday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Vechionacci's go-ahead two-run single in the seventh helped Charleston improve to 3-2 on the early season and snap a two-game losing skid, while dropping Columbus to 1-3.

Carlos Rosario, who entered the game in the seventh inning, picked up his second victory of the season as he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings. Mike Martinez earned the save for the RiverDogs and has now saved all three wins for Charleston thus far. Columbus' Albenis Castillo suffered the loss, dropping his record to 0-1.

With Columbus leading 6-5 in the RiverDogs' portion of the seventh inning, Vechionacci singled to left field, driving home Grant Plumley who reached on a pinch-hit bunt single and Ryan Haag, who entered the game as a pinch-runner for catcher Irwil Rojas, who walked.

Columbus was led offensively by first baseman Dan Batz and shortstop David Nicholson, who each had three hits. Batz drove home three runs and Nichlson added two RBI.

Charleston took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Vechionacci singled off of the leg of starting pitch Blake Johnson, scoring Tim Battle who had singled and then stole second and third base. Cody Ehlers then followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Justrin Christian. Jones made it 5-0 in the third with a three-run triple off Johnson, but the Catfish came back with six unanswered to take their first lead in the seventh.

The two teams play game two of the three-game series on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m.
