Gwinnett's Matt Wisler Named International League Pitcher of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - In an announcement made today by the International League, Gwinnett Braves' right-hander Matt Wisler was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for May 4-10.

Wisler, 22, went 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA (2 ER in 13.1 IP), one walk and nine strikeouts in two starts during the week. On May 5 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he earned his first win as a G-Brave, pitching 5.1 innings with a run on five hits and seven strikeouts in a 3-1 victory. His next outing, May 10 at Lehigh Valley, was his first quality start of the year as he pitched a career-high 8.0 innings with a run on five hits and two strikeouts in a 9-1 win.

Rated the Atlanta Braves' No. 2 prospect by MLB.com, Wisler is 2-3 with a 4.59 ERA (17 ER in 33.1 IP) in six starts overall with Gwinnett this season.

Wisler is the first G-Braves' player to take home an IL Player of the Week award in 2015. It is his third career league Pitcher of the Week award, following Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors with Double-A San Antonio on July 8, 2013 and August 26, 2013.

The Gwinnett Braves (15-15) begin a seven-game homestand with the first of four games against the Syracuse Chiefs (12-18) tonight at Coolray Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (0-3, 5.64 ERA) starts for the G-Braves, while the Chiefs counter with right-hander Scott McGregor (2-2, 4.21 ERA). Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM and WSBRadio.com beginning at 6:00 p.m.
