Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ESCAPE ARTISTS: The Indianapolis Indians escaped PNC Field with a 2-1 victory over the RailRiders on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the RailRiders against the Indians (18-13) at home.

QUALITY EFFORT: Starter Kyle Davies (2-3) suffered his second straight setback despite posting his second consecutive quality start. Davies allowed just two runs and three hits over his six innings against the club that entered the day leading the league with a .322 team batting average in May.

WHAT A RELIEF: Tyler Webb and Jared Burton followed Davies with a combined three perfect frames. Webb whiffed three while Burton notched a strikeout of his own.

IN A PINCH: Manager Dave Miley called upon two different pinch hitters in the ninth inning. Ben Gamel took Jonathan Galvez's spot in a righty-lefty switch at the start of the inning but struck out swinging against hard-throwing closer Blake Wood. Kyle Roller took Eddy Rodriguez's spot with two outs and flied out to foul left. Wood notched his league-best eighth save. Before Sunday, the RailRiders had used a pinch hitter just once all season when Roller singled for Rodriguez in the ninth inning versus Syracuse on April 11.

ONE-RUN FUN: Indianapolis entered the series with the most one-run wins in the league along with the most such contests. Each of the three tilts were decided by a single score at PNC Field over the weekend with the RailRiders taking two of the three. SWB has won four of its last five one-run games. At 7-4 (.636), SWB stands tied for the loop's second-best winning percentage in single-score contests with Syracuse. The duo trails only Pawtucket's 6-2 mark (.750).

WINNING WAYS: With wins in the first two games of the series against the Indians, the RailRiders returned to .500 for the first time since concluding the prior homestand at 9-9. The lone winning SWB record this year came when the squad started 1-0. The 2014 team's final taste of the air above sea level came after a 7-4 win over Toledo on June 9, 2014. That SWB team then lost five in a row and never got back over .500.

DEATH, TAXES, HEATHCOTT: Slade Heathcott singled to extend the team's top active hitting streak to eight games. He leads the team with 12 multi-hit games, five multi-RBI showings and five steals. His 38 hits on the season have him fifth in the league. Since he suffered an 0-for-6 night in the 15-inning game against the IronPigs on April 20, Heathcott has gone 27-for-69 (.391/.462/.464/.925) to lift his season-long batting average by nearly 100 points (.234-.328). The usual leadoff man paces the team with 15 RBIs.

BACK IN THE SADDLE: In his first game after losing his longest Triple-A hitting streak at 10 games, Rob Refsnyder collected two of the RailRiders' six hits on Sunday including a well-struck double down the left-field line in the eighth inning. He has reached safely in 12 straight games since game two of the April 25 doubleheader versus Pawtucket. In that time, he has hit .375 while posting an OBP of .404. Seven of his 10 RBIs have come during this 12-game stretch.

KEEP ON GETTIN' ON: Ramon Flores reached base in three different ways. He was hit by a pitch, singled, walked and scored the team's lone run. His lone out came on a liner to left field. Flores has reached base safely in 19 of his last 20 games including a 16-game spurt from April 15-May 5. There have only been three longer runs in the league thus far this season (Charlotte's Dan Black: 20 games from April 11-May 7; Toledo's Daniel Fields: 18 games from April 17-Present; and Norfolk's Chris Parmelee: 17 games from April 22-Present).
