May 11, 2015 - International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Lehigh Valley outfielder Brian Bogusevic and Gwinnett pitcher Matt Wisler have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 4-Â10.  Each is the first member of his respective club to claim an IL weekly award this season. Â
BRIAN BOGUSEVIC, Lehigh Valley IronPigs IL BATTER OF THE WEEKÂ
Over the past week Lehigh Valley's Brian Bogusevic hit .423 and either led or tied for the League lead with eleven hits, four doubles, five extra-Âbase hits, and nine runs scored.  Yesterday he snapped a career-Âhigh 12-Âgame hitting streak, which had begun April 27, one game after an 11-Âgame hitting streak came to an end.  Bogusevic's week included a two-Ârun walk-Âoff double on Friday against Gwinnett to give the IronPigs their first three-Âgame winning streak of 2015.  He is now among the League's top ten hitters with a .336 average on the season.  31-Âyear-Âold Brian Bogusevic is in his ninth season as a professional player. He is a veteran of 299 games in the Major Leagues with the Astros (2010-Â12) and Cubs (2013).  In 2011 he became the 26th player in MLB history to step to the plate with his team down three runs and hit a walk-Âoff grand slam.  This past offseason he signed with Philadelphia as a minor league free agent.  Bogusevic is a native of Oak Lawn, Illinois.Â
MATT WISLER, Gwinnett Braves   IL PITCHER OF THE WEEKÂ
Gwinnett right-Âhander Matt Wisler picked up his first two victories of the season this week in impressive fashion. Both wins came during a road trip through Pennsylvania, with Wisler allowing a total of just two runs to lower his ERA on the year from 6.75 to 4.59.  On Tuesday the Braves defeated Scranton/Wilkes-ÂBarre 3-Â1 behind 5.1 innings and a season-Âhigh seven strikeouts from Wisler.  Then on Sunday afternoon at Lehigh Valley, Wisler tossed 8.0 innings of five-Âhit, one-Ârun baseball without walking a batter as Gwinnett cruised to a 9-Â1 triumph. He now leads his club with 33.1 innings pitched this season.  22-Âyear-Âold Matt Wisler is in his third season as a professional pitcher.  He was selected by San Diego in the 7th round of the 2011 draft out of high school.  Wisler went 9-Â5 in his first taste of Triple-ÂA Baseball last season pitching for El Paso of the Pacific Coast League.  Just prior to the 2015 season he was dealt to the Braves as part of the trade for Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton, Jr.  Wisler is a native of Bryan, Ohio.Â
