
Gwinnett's Garnett Named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Gwinnett goaltender Michael Garnett is the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for March 22-28. Garnett was named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for December 1-7 and December 22-28.
Reassigned to Gwinnett by Chicago of the American Hockey League on March 26, Garnett was 2-1-0 with a goals against average of 0.67 and a save percentage of .981 against Central Division competition as Gwinnett went 3-1-0 to improve to 39-22-7 and a tie with Pensacola for third place in the Central Division.
Under contract to Atlanta of the National Hockey League and assigned to Gwinnett by Atlanta, Garnett made 23 saves in an 8-0 win at Texas on March 26. After he stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 3-1 loss at division leader Louisiana on March 27, Garnett made a season-high 43 saves in a 2-0 win against Louisiana on March 28.
Selected in the third round (80th overall) by Atlanta in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Garnett is 20-10-2 with a goals against average of 2.12 and a save percentage of .927 in 32 games for the Gladiators. Garnett ranks third in the league in goals against average and is tied for third with four shutouts. The 21-year-old Garnett has also appeared in 12 games with Chicago of the AHL where he is 6-3-2 with a goals against average of 2.68 and a save percentage of .910.
In his first professional season in 2002-03, Garnett was 16-15-3 with a 3.41 goals against average and a .895 save percentage in 38 regular season games and 1-2 with a 4.38 goals against average and a .885 save percentage in three Kelly Cup Playoff games with Greenville of the ECHL. Garnett also appeared in two games with Chicago of the AHL where he was 0-1-0 with a goals against average of 3.64 goals against average and a save percentage of .875.
