
Garnett Named Goalie of the Week for March 22 - 28

The ECHL announced today that Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett has been named the ITECH ECHL Goaltender of the week for March 22 – 28.
Reassigned to the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves on March 26th, Garnett recorded his third and fourth shutouts of the season and help the Gladiators tie and ECHL record for most consecutive shutouts with three in an 8-0 win over Texas on March 26th.
Garnett was 2-1-0 with a goals against average of 0.67 and a save percentage of .981 against Texas and Louisiana while the Gladiators went 3-1-0 to improve to 39-22-7 and a tie with Pensacola for third place in the Central Division.
Under contract to Atlanta of the National Hockey League and assigned to Gwinnett by Atlanta, Garnett made 23 saves in an 8-0 win at Texas on March 26. After he stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 3-1 loss at division leader Louisiana on March 27, Garnett made a season-high 43 saves in a 2-0 win against Louisiana on March 28.
Selected in the third round, 80th overall, by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Garnett is 20-10-2 with a 2.12 goals against average and a .927 save percentage in 32 games for the Gladiators. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native ranks third in the league in goals against average and is tied for third with four shutouts.
Garnett has also appeared in 12 games with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL where he is 6-3-2 with a goals against average of 2.68 and a save percentage of .910.
Garnett joins Maxime Gingras, then with Richmond during the 1998-99 season and Tyrone Gardner, then with Greenville during the 2000-01 season as the only three time winners of the ECHL goaltender of the week award winners.
