Gwinnett prepares for their final 10-game homestand of the regular season

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Gwinnett Braves return home to Coolray Field for their final homestand of the 2012 regular season beginning on Monday, August 20 and concluding on Thursday, August 30. The G-Braves will be playing host to the International League South second place Norfolk Tides (August 20-21) for two games, then Gwinnett welcomes the Syracuse Chiefs (August 23-26) for a four-game series and finally, the G-Braves will conclude their 10-game homestand with four games against the IL North's second place team, the Pawtucket Red Sox (August 27-30) to conclude 2012 home schedule at Coolray Field.

Ernesto Mejia is vying to become the third straight Gwinnett Brave player to receive the IL Rookie of the Year award. Freddie Freeman won the award in 2010, and Julio Teheran took home the hardware last year, following his 15-3 season. Mejia is having an incredible year, leading the IL in hits (140) and the G-Braves in most offensive categories including runs scored (67), home runs (24) and RBI (87). Teheran is coming off one of his best career starts against the Norfolk Tides. The right-hander tied a career-high with nine strikeouts en route to his seventh win of the season. Randall Delgado and Sean Gilmartin have been pleasantly surprising for the G-Braves rotation, as both grabbed wins on the previous Gwinnett homestand. The two pitchers each started their respective seasons at different levels, with Delgado flirting with Atlanta and Gilmartin getting his feet wet in Double-A Mississippi. Nevertheless, the two pitchers are now with Gwinnett and their career successes have only just begun.

The G-Braves upcoming homestand features a ton of festivities and new activities, including the regular great discounts and offers like Kids Eat Free Monday, 2 for 1 Tuesday, Winning Wednesday, $Thursday and of course, what homestand would be complete without Fox 5 Friday Fireworks?
