Gwinnett downs Charlotte, 8-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Gwinnett Gladiators scored on five power plays en route to a 8-1 victory over the Charlotte Checkers Wednesday night in front of 3,929 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Guillaume Desbiens scored twice on the night as seven different Gladiators scored.

Gwinnett's Jeff Campbell scored the only goal of the first period on the power play. The Gladiators extended their lead as they scored five goals in the second period.

Desbiens and Matt York scored on the power play at the 1:17 and 8:48 mark of the second period, respectively. Lane Mason scored an even strength goal which was followed by power play goals by Scott Mifsud and John Awe to round out the scoring in the second period.

Dusty Jamieson got the Checkers on the board at the 6:57 mark of the third period, but that would be all Charlotte would get. Gwinnett capped off the scoring with Desbiens and former Checker Brian Teixeira.

Charlotte outshot Gwinnett 36 to 32 but Gwinnett scored on 5-of-9 power play opportunities while Charlotte was scoreless on three chances.

Sean Fields picked up the win for Gwinnett stopping 35 shots while Jeff Glass took the loss making 13 saves on 17 shots. Chris Holt replaced Glass at the 9:20 mark of the second period and made 11 saves while facing 15 shots.
