Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, Idaho - Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn stopped all 20 shots he faced, while the home team buried three power play goals, as they earned a 3-0 victory over the Fresno Falcons in front of 3,731 fans at Qwest Arena on Wednesday night.

Silverthorn (20-13-3) now has 20 wins on the season, three of which have come via shutouts. The victory allows the Steelheads to jump to 19-10-5 on home ice and 5-2-0 against the Falcons (37-12-13) this season. The club has also won five straight overall and seven straight on home ice.

The Steelheads (38-20-7) opened the game's scoring with just under three minutes gone by in the first period. Forward Paul Caponigri feathered a pass from behind the Falcons' net to rookie center Kurt MacSweyn. MacSweyn's initial shot was stopped by Jamie Holden (21 saves), but he smacked home his own rebound to make the score 1-0. Rookie winger Mike Adamek also drew an assist.

MacSweyn's sixth tally of the season was the only goal in the opening 20 minutes of play, as the Steelheads out-shot the Falcons 15-9. It was also the Dalkeith, Ontario native's first professional game-winner.

In the second period, the Steelheads' man advantage struck again, making the score 2-0. At 15:02, D'Arcy McConvey threw a side angle shot towards the net that ricocheted off of Holden's pad into the crease. Dan Hacker jammed home the loose puck for his 11th of the campaign. David Bararuk also picked up an assist on the play, his 10th in the last 11 contests.

Hacker's second of the match was the only goal in the third period, and it also came on the power play. Marty Flichel and Tyler Kindle set up the marker at 11:19 of the stanza.

The final shots were 24-20 in favor of the Steelheads, who finished three-for-nine on the power play. The Falcons went zero-for-four on the man advantage, as they saw their nine-game unbeaten streak snapped.

The three-game series with the Falcons continues on Friday, March 24. It's Fan Appreciation Night at Qwest Arena, as the puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 AM, "The Ticket," beginning approximately 20 minutes before the drop of the puck. The Steelheads then return home on Saturday, March 18 to wrap up their three-game series versus the Thunder. For tickets, call 208-331-TIXS.
