Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Long Beach, CA - The Victoria Salmon Kings started their California tour in Long Beach to face the Ice Dogs for the sixth time this season. Long Beach tried to maintain their undefeated record against Victoria, but were muzzled by the Salmon Kings as they pulled away with the 4-3 victory.

It took 3:05 into the first period for the Salmon Kings to get on the board. Jade Galbraith waited and faked a pass before beating Goaltender Greg Hewitt for his 16th goal of the season. Just 48 seconds later, Sean McAslan lit the lamp to tie the game 1-1.

Still in the first, with 10:06 remaining, Galbraith posted his second goal of the night and gave Victoria a 2-1 lead. Taggart Desmet earned his 9th point in five games by leading Galbraith with the breakaway pass.

McAslan followed suit with his second goal of the game and evened the score 2-2 at 11:12 into the second period. The power play goal was McAslan's 23rd goal of the season.

The Salmon Kings struck next at even strength when Adam Taylor earned his 50th point of the season with the 3-2 leading goal, with 2:26 left in the second frame. West Vancouver native Elias Godoy snagged the assist and got his first point in professional hockey.

Into the third period, Victoria was ahead in shots 26-23, but it took just one more shot for Long Beach to tie the score again. Centre Cory Urquhart scored his 20th goal of the season just 1:06 into the period-the Ice Dogs dug in their claws.

But just as Long Beach scored early in the third, Victoria scored late in the third.

Steve Roberts robbed the 4-3 win, scoring his fourth goal in four games, his 11th of the season, from a play that started on a second effort scramble between the blue lines.

Victoria was 0-2 on the power play and Long Beach scored once out of two attempts with the extra man. McVicar grabbed his second straight win and 12th win of the season and Hewitt was handed his 12th loss. Long Beach out shot Victoria 34-31.
