March 23, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls will get some high-powered offense back in the lineup Friday when they host the Long Beach Ice Dogs. Alex Kim, who's missed the last 31 games with a broken collar bone, and veteran R.J. Enga will both be re-added to active roster.

Kim suffered his injury Jan. 7 against the Utah Grizzlies. He joined the Gulls in late November and quickly became San Diego's go-to guy. In just 18 games, the 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pounder from Fullerton, Calif. has 27 points (12g, 15a). He leads the Gulls with three short-handed goals and a +13 rating. Before being placed on the injured list, Kim had a 12-game point streak, also a Gulls season high.

The 26-year-old centerman played last season for former Gulls head coach Steve Martinson with the United Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, netting 28 points (8g, 20a) in 35 games. Kim also played in 13 playoff games for Rockford last season, accumulating 16 points (4g, 12a). His 12 postseason assists ranked fourth in the UHL.

In 165 professional games, Kim has notched 157 points (70g, 87a) and 141 penalty minutes. In 146 career games in the ECHL, he has registered 127 points (61g, 66a) and 133 penalty minutes.

Meanwhile, Enga is filling in for the third time this season. He suited for San Diego on Feb. 14 in Las Vegas, then again in Stockton on Feb. 26. In the two games, he's recorded one goal and two penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pounder from Bittburg, Germany last played full-time with the Gulls in 2002-03 during San Diego's last Taylor Cup Championship run. During his career, Enga has netted 100+ points three times and has scored at least 27 goals in each of his eight complete professional seasons. Enga was a 10th round selection of the New York Islanders in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.

San Diego hosts Long Beach Friday at 7:35 p.m. It will be another "Pooch Party Night," presented by VCA Animal Hospitals. The Gulls will then entertain the Phoenix Roadrunners Saturday at 7:05 p.m. That will be "80s Night," and the first 8,000 fans will receive a Velcro wallet, courtesy of Casino Pauma.
