Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - Sean Gusrang hit a three-run homer as part of a five run eighth inning as the Traverse City Beach Bums completed their third straight come from behind win, an 8-7 triumph over the Evansville Otters.

Trailing 6-3 heading into the eighth, the Beach Bums loaded the bases on a walk by Ryan Still, a fielder's choice allowing Brian Heere to reach and a single by Jose Vargas. Chase Burch came up and singled through the middle to score Still and Heere and moving Vargas to second to make it 6-5. The runners stayed on first and second through a pair of outs before Gusrang came up. The Beach Bums rightfielder waited out a 3-1 count before driving his 12th homer of the season over the wall in right to put the Beach Bums up 8-6.

The Otters made it interesting in the bottom of the inning as the first two batters reached base and a sac fly off the bat of Stephen Marino scored Luis Uribe to cut the lead to one. That's when Scott Mueller came in to lock the door, retiring the final five Evansville hitters in the contest for his 14th save.

Traverse City got on the board with their earliest runs of the series as in the first inning Brian Heere and Jose Vargas singled before a walk to Jeff Flagg loaded the bases. Kyle Colligan came through with a single to center to score Heere and Vargas and make it 2-0 Beach Bums.

Evansville would respond in the bottom of the inning with four runs, three of them on a Luis Uribe homer to go up 4-2. The Otters would tack on a couple more in the sixth as with the bases loaded on walks to DeAngelo Mack and Stephen Marino and a double by Uribe, Brett Chamberlain singled back through the middle to bring home Mack and Uribe. TC would put a run across in the seventh on a bases loaded walk by Travis Higgs to score Jeff Flagg, setting up the late game dramatics.

Jake Sabol (1-0) picked up the win going 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Eric Massingham (3-1) took the loss for the Otters.

Traverse City returns home for a weekend series starting with a FANtastic Fireworks Friday against Schaumburg at 7:05 p.m. For tickets call 943-0100, log on to tcbeachbums.com or visit the Wuerfel Park ticket office.
