Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Gateway bashed four home runs and jumped out to a five-run first inning lead en route to a 9-7 win against the Lake Erie Crushers Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.

The win helped the Grizzlies (44-31) avoid the series sweep and kept them one half game back of Windy City in the Frontier League West Division.

Rogelio Noris drilled a two-run home run to left field and John Shelby smoked a three-run home run to right field to give the Grizzlies a 5-0 first inning lead.

Jerod Yakubik blasted a solo home run in the third to extend the Grizzlies lead to 6-0.

Lake Erie (42-33) scored three runs in the fourth to pull within three runs off Grizzlies starter Tim Brown (9-2), who surrendered five runs on 11 hits in six innings. Brown still managed to pick up the victory.

Antone DeJesus ripped an RBI double in the fifth and Jon Myers picked up his fourth home run in four days to round out the Grizzlies scoring in the sixth inning.

Richard Barrett worked a one-two-three ninth inning to pick up his 11th save of the season for the Grizzlies.

Noris and Landon Hernandez paced the Grizzlies offense with two hits each.

The Grizzlies hit the road on Friday for a three-game road series with the Southern Illinois Miners. Right-hander Paul Tremlin (5-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05.

Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
