Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied from another early deficit on Thursday for a come from behind 8-7 win over the Evansville Otters at Historic Bosse Field.

The Beach Bums sprung ahead for a two-run lead in the first inning, only to see the Otters punch back for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Outfielder Luis Uribe had the big hit of the rally, a three run home run, his seventh of the season.

Ahead 4-2, catcher Brett Chamberlain added another pair of runs with a single in the sixth inning.

Traverse City was then down 6-2 but not out. The Beach Bums would plate a run in the seventh and add five more in the eighth to re-gain the lead. After reliever Patrick Crider failed to retire the first two batters, closer Eric Massingham allowed back to back hits including a two-run single to Chase Burch. Still clinging to a one-run advantage, Massingham got the next two batters out but surrendered a go-ahead three run home run to outfielder Sean Gusrang later in the inning.

The Traverse City Beach Bums jumped ahead to the 8-6 lead, only allowing a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning, on their way to the victory.

The Beach Bums are now 48-27 this season as the Otters drop to 35-40.

Neither starter factored in to the decision. Matt Crim allowed just two runs in 6.0 innings for Evansville as Traverse City right-hander Brooks Belter yielded six runs (five earned) in 5.2 innings.

Reliever Jake Sabol (1-0) receives the win after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings. The loss goes to Massingham (3-1) who allowed three runs in 1.0 innings, his first blown save of the season. Pitcher Scott Mueller (14th save) recorded the final five outs for the Traverse City win.

Uribe finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and his three-run home run.

The Otters will now begin a six-game road trip by playing at the Windy City Thunderbolts on Friday night. Evansville native Adam Champion (5-4, 2.55 ERA) will start against right-hander Dustin Williams (10-4, 4.88) of Windy City. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT at Standard Bank Stadium.
