Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â Fresno Falcons player/assistant coach Glen Gulutzan was named the West Coast Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 3 â 9.
Already the franchise's all-time leading scorer, Gulutzan tallied four goals and an assist in an 8-3 victory against the San Diego Gulls last week and became the first player in team history to eclipse the 400-point barrier in a Falcons uniform. Gulutzan achieved the historic milestone in dramatic fashion by reaching point number 400 when he completed the fourth hat trick of his Falcons career.
Three nights later Gulutzan was the team's high point man with one goal and three assists in an 11-6 victory against the Anchorage Aces. Actually a close game heading into the third period with Fresno clinging to a 6-5 lead, the contest turned into a rout after the sixth-year Falcons pro scored a short-handed goal off a break-away that eventually served as the gameâwinner.
Neither accomplishment was the number one highlight of Gulutzan's week, though. His wife Nicole delivered the couple's second daughter, Brielle Lauryn Gulutzan, last Friday morning. The award marks the second time this season that Gulutzan has been named Player of the Week.
Also earning league recognition was goaltender Mark Gowan. Already named Goaltender of the Week twice this year, Gowan picks up an Honorable Mention for the award by helping lead the club to its three victories last week. Included in the three wins was a 34-save performance in a 5-2 victory over the Gulls on the road on Saturday.
Fresno is in the midst of a week-long layoff and does not return to game action until Sunday, Feb. 16, when they host the Bakersfield Condors at 5 p.m. at Selland Arena. Tickets are still available for the game at the Selland box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
