Grrrowl Win OT Thriller on Education Day

GREENVILLE, SC – After spotting the Cincinnati Cyclones a 2-0 lead, the Greenville Grrrowl rallied with 3-straight goals and posted a 3-2 overtime victory in front of 6,880 at the BI-LO Center Tuesday morning. The Grrrowl entertained nearly 4,000 students on "Education Day", and opened a 3-point lead over the Columbus Cottonmouths for the 5th and final playoff spot in the Southeast Division.

Evan Cheverie opened the scoring at 7:02 of the first period, and Matt Noga gave Cincinnati a 2-0 lead :18 seconds into the second period. TYLER DEIS scored his first of two goals on the day at 2:59 of period two, and MARK GOUETT tied the game at 2-2 at the 3:00 mark of the third period. The Grrrowl outshot the Cyclones 5-0 in overtime, and DEIS beat Cyclones goaltender Gregg Naumenko 1:51 seconds into sudden death to seal the 3-2 overtime win for Greenville. The Grrrowl outshot Cincinnati 46-22. Goaltender MICHAEL GARNETT made 20 saves in a winning effort for the Greenville.

After the game, GARNETT was recalled by the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves, who play in Cincinnati against the Mighty Ducks tomorrow (Wednesday). Wolves netminder Norm Maracle was recalled by the National Hockey League's Atlanta Thrashers who, this week, placed Pasi Nurminen and Byron Dafoe on the injured list.

The Grrrowl remain home to host the Southeast Division rival South Carolina Stingrays Friday night at 7:05 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
