February 18, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals took five out of a possible six points in three days this weekend with a 4-2 win over the Muskegon Fury at the Coach USA Center before 3,879 fans on Sunday night.

Muskegon got things rolling in the game with Robin Bouchard's goal at 14:19, his 28th of the year from Brant Blackned and Andrew Luciuk. It was the only goal of the first period, which featured 25 total shots on goal, 14 of which were for Muskegon.

In the second period, Aaron Phillips evened things up for the Jackals with his 24th of the year at 3:28. Mike Hofstrand and David Lessard added the assists. Elmira pulled ahead 2-1 on Eddy Lowe's goal at 6:27. Lowe crashed the crease as the extra attacker on a delayed penalty call for the Jackals, scoring on the rebound off a Brad Wingfield shot. Hofstrand added the other assist on the goal. The middle frame ended with the Jackals in front by a goal, and tying Muskegon with 11 shots in the period.

Taking advantage of what turned out to be their only power play of the game, the Jackals took a 3-1 lead when Randy Murphy scored on a backdoor pass from Glenn Stewart at 8:24. Trevor Burgess had the other helper on the goal, which saw Muskegon goaltender Michal Lanicek sustain an undisclosed leg injury that forced him from the game after the next stoppage in play. Todd Robinson made things interesting when he scored with the extra man on for Muskegon at 19:20 from Travis Thiessen and Blackned, but Stewart wrapped things up for the Jackals with his 22nd goal of the year from Corey Neilson into an empty goalmouth with just over 20 seconds remaining. Marco Emond made several spectacular saves for the Jackals in the game, coming up big with his catch glove on several occasions. For his 35 save performance, Emond garnered first star honors on the night. Lanicek took the loss, stopping 29 of 32 before leaving the game.

Elmira will now play their next three games on the road, starting on Wednesday in Glens Falls against the Adirondack IceHawks at 7 pm. From there, the team will travel to Muskegon on Friday to face the Fury at 7:30, then move to Quad City to play the Mallards at 8 pm EST. The next Jackals home game will be on Friday, February 28th against the Port Huron Beacons. Tickets are available for that and all remaining Jackals home games through the Coach USA Center Box Office, open 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
