
Grrrowl hang on for 5-4 victory over Cottonmouths

COLUMBUS, GA â Following Friday's 6-5 shootout win over Florida and Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Everblades, the Greenville Grrrowl ended a 3-game road trip with a 5-4 win in front of 2,328 at the Columbus Civic Center Sunday afternoon. The Grrrowl have just 6 games remaining in the 72-game regular season schedule.
The Grrrowl opened a 1-0 lead when MATT DEMARSKI beat âSnakes goaltender Matus Kostur at 4:24 of the first period. Andrew Long tied the game, 1-1, at 12:20 of the opening period, before MARTIN MASA took a backdoor pass from MIKE HENDERSON and gave the Grrrowl a 2-1 lead with a powerplay goal at 13:30.
In the second period, Brent Cullaton (1:21) and Chad Hamilton (10:37) scored back-to-back goals to give Columbus their first lead, 3-2. TYLER DEIS tied the game at 3-3 with another powerplay goal at 14:44 of the second period. And CHRIS WISMER found MATT DEMARSKI with a great pass, and Greenville took a 4-3 lead with Demarski's 22nd goal of the season with just 1:11 left in the second period.
The teams exchanged goals in the third period when MATT DEMARSKI recorded his third goal, and fourth point, of the night at 1:57. Jerome Bechard made it a one-goal game at 5:11, but that's as close as Columbus would get, and Greenville held on for the 5-4 win. Goaltender MICHAEL GARNETT has now won 5-straight games for the Greenville Grrrowl.
