Condors lose in final minute

Long Beach, Calif. – Mike Barrie scored his second goal of the game inside the final minute of play to give the Long Beach Ice Dogs defeated the Bakersfield Condors 3-2 in front of 2,401 fans at the Long Beach Arena on Sunday night.

Long Beach took the lead just 4:01 into the game. Mike Barrie poked the puck past the Condors defenseman at the Ice Dogs blue line and streaked in alone on Kevin St. Pierre, beating him for his 14t of the season. The Ice Dogs made it 2-0 when Trent Clark blasted home a one-timer at the 13:22 mark of the first. Barrie picked up his second point of the night wit an assist on the goal. Danielle Dube stopped all 11 Condors shots between the pipes for Long Beach.

The Condors got on the board in the second period, but it took 18:33 to do it. Paul Rosebush extended his goal-scoring streak to four games with his 17th of the season. His centering feed deflected off a Long Beach defenseman past Dube to put Bakersfield on the board. Dube had stopped 23 of 24 shots through 40 minutes, while St. Pierre faced just four second period shots by Long Beach, and 12 through two periods.

Bakersfield tied the game up at 2-2 early in the third period. Jeff Goldie buried his 25th goal of the season, with assists going to Christian Skoryna and Shawn Byram. It looked as if the game was headed to a shootout, with the score tied in the final minute of play, but Long Beach pushed back in front for good. Barrie tipped home a wrist shot from the right point for his second of the night with just 31 seconds remaining on the clock. The Ice Dogs took the 3-2 victory, leaving the Condors 1-2 on the weekend.

The Condors return home to host the San Diego Gulls on Friday night at 7:00pm. That night marks the return of The Famous Chicken, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, K-Lite 105.3 and Bill Wright Toyota. On Saturday night, the Anchorage Aces come into town for a 7:00pm start at the Garden. That night, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Condors CD Wallet, compliments of KUZZ 107 and Sierra Mist.
