Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â Defenseman Jason McBain scored twice, including the game-tying goal mid-way through the third period, before the Fresno Falcons lost to the Long Beach Ice Dogs, 3-2 in a shootout, on Saturday at Selland Arena.
The Ice Dogs' Jeff Attard drew first blood when he beat Fresno goaltender Terry Friesen on a wrap-around with a man all over his back at 11:22 of the first. The Falcons tied the game at one toward the end of the frame as McBain hammered home a shot from the point on the power play at 17:14 for his sixth of the season.
Fresno generated several chances early in the second period with the game still tied 1-1 but could not solve Long Beach netminder Danielle Dube, who was facing the Falcons for the first time this season. Mid-way through the period the Ice Dogs capitalized on their first power play chance of the game when Tyler Willis slid a pass across the slot to Michal Pinc, who banged home his 10th of the year at 11:03.
Still trailing 2-1 entering the third, Fresno controlled play in the final frame before finally finding the equalizer at 10:40. McBain cut hard to the net off the rush and beat Dube five-hole for his seventh of the year.
In the extra session, both goaltenders kept the first four shooters from each team off the board. Trent Clark then found the back of the net behind Friesen for the Ice Dogs, and when Fresno captain Jason Weaver misfired on Dube, Long Beach skated away with the 3-2 win.
Fresno has not won since defeating the Idaho Steelheads on March 2, a string of six straight games that includes two shootout losses. Their record is now 30-25-8 with 68 points.
The Falcons continue their current five-game home stand with their third game in three days tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. against the Steelheads. It is Family Day at Selland Arena sponsored by CentralValley.com, where fans can download a coupon redeemable at the Selland box office good for six balcony tickets to tomorrow's game for only $28. Tickets for tomorrow's Taylor Cup Finals re-match are also available at all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
