Growlers Claw Back with Late Inning Rally But Lose in 9th, 8-7

Kenosha, Wisc.- It all came down to one pitch in the top of the 9th inning for the Kalamazoo Growlers in Kenosha,WI on Sunday afternoon, as the Growlers had runners on second and third with Troy Montgomery (Ohio State) down to his last strike. Montgomery promptly lined a single to right field, scoring Grant VanPutten (Calvin College) and Jesse Puscheck (Canasius College) with the tying runs.

However Kenosha still had three more outs with at bats in the bottom of the 9th. They would not dissapoint the Simmons Field crowd of 2277, as a bases loaded walk off reliever Josh Buchalski (Michigan State ) gave Kenosha the walk off victory and a sweep of the series. Buchalski took the loss for Kalamazoo and took his first loss of the year. Ryan Lidge powered his way to a four hit, three RBI night for the Growlers, and lead an offense who outhit the Kingfish 15 to 7 on the night. The Growlers slip 12-21 on the year. Kalamazoo finishes up the first half of the 2014 season with a day night doubleheader as they host Battle creek in the first game, a noon start at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo, MI.
