Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - The final game of the series against the Kalamazoo Growlers was a nail biter as the Kingfish won in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off walk 8-7. The Kingfish swept the Growlers and are now tied for fourth place in the South Division.
Similar to last night, the Growlers struck right away in the first with two runs and kept adding away with one run respectively in the third, fourth and fifth. Ryan Lidge was the staple player for the Growlers with three RBI, four hits and one run.
The Kingfish were able to start early in the first as well with one run off an RBI single from Alex Dunlap. King Elvis' Crew scored big in the third with four runs. Kyle Brooks hit a three run double that was followed by an RBI single from Zack Kolakowski giving the Kingfish a 5-3 lead.
The game was all tied up in the sixth at five apiece and stayed quiet until the eighth thanks to the pitching of EJ Trapino and Paul Schuster. Pinch hitter Alex Borglin was on third and Spencer Gaa on second with one out for Kenosha in the eighth frame when Buddy Reed nailed a two run single to right center, giving the home squad a 7-5 advantage.
Needing only three more outs in the top of the ninth, the Kingfish bullpen could not silence the Growlers as they scored two more to tie the contest. The Kingfish came back strong however, quickly loading the bases with no outs. The Growlers had nine walks on the night, which would come back to haunt as Chris Godinez was walked, plating the final run to walk off with an 8-7 victory.
Monday, the Kingfish take on the Lakeshore Chinooks for a home-and-home double header, with the second game coming at historic Simmons Field at 7:05p.m. The game will be Guarantee Win Night and have the Human Cannonball as post-game entertainment. The next home series starts on Wednesday, July 2 nd at 7:05p.m. against the St. Cloud Rox.
