Errors doom Blue Anchors in loss to Bucks

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors split their series with the Waterloo Bucks Sunday evening by a score of 8-3 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The Anchors have a 9-24 record with two games left in the first half.

Sean Stutzman made the start for the Blue Anchors and the Bucks jumped on him early. Pat Mackenzie led off with a base hit and moved to second on an error by Stutzman and after a pop out, David Kerrian doubled him in. Following another out, Connor McClain doubled in Kerrian to make it 2-0. John Sternagel walked to put two on for Zach Soria who singled in McClain. Another base hit, this time from Steven Goldstein, brought in Sternagel and Jake Riffice finished off the inning with an RBI base hit and at the end of the top of the first, the Bucks led 5-0.

The Blue Anchors got one back in the bottom half of their inning. Jordan Lee singled and went to second when Nehwon Norkeh walked. Aaron Gretz singled up the middle to bring in Lee and make the score 5-1.

Waterloo got another run with two outs against Robbie Mouton as Connor McClain singled in Jon McAllister making the score 6-1.

Alexandria put together a rally in the eighth against the Bucks bullpen. Lukas Hermanson singled to start the inning and went to second on a Jake Bergren single. Craig Nennig walked to load the bases and after a fly out, Norkeh doubled in Hermanson and Bergren, closing the gap to 6-3.

In the top of the ninth, the game was put out of reach by scoring two runs, highlighted by a Soria two-out single to put the Anchors away 8-3

Stutzman (0-3) took the loss as he pitched one inning allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk. Mouton continued his hot streak by pitching four solid innings giving up just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Austin Smith finished the game for the Anchors by throwing four innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with one punch out.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Newon Norkeh (DH) - The Angelo State outfielder has sparked the Anchors' offense as he collected another pair of hits and a walk in four trips to the plate with two RBI. Norkeh has six RBI in just four games played.
