Mallards Look to Rebound Tonight against Chinooks

Madison, WI - June 29, 2014. The Madison Mallards (16-14) travel to Mequon today to face the Lakeshore Chinooks (22-10) at 5:05 pm. On the bump is southpaw Rob McDonnell (Illinois), who aims to help the Mallards bounce back from a 3-1 loss last night to the Chinooks.

McDonnell has been solid for the Mallards this summer, carrying a 1.20 ERA in 22.1 innings of work, giving up just three earned runs on 16 hits while striking out 20. In his last start, McDonnell tossed 5.2 shutout innings, letting up just one hit in a 2-0 victory over the Alexandria Blue Anchors.

He will square off against Chinooks starter Joe Pavlovich, a 6'1", 185-pound righty out of UW-Oshkosh. Pavlovich is 2-1 on the year in six appearances and two starts, holding a 2.07 ERA in 26 innings pitched. His last start, Pavlovich gave up two runs on three hits in six innings of work to receive the win against the Kalamazoo Growlers.

Last night, the Mallards left ten runners on base to fall five games back of the Lakeshore Chinooks in the Northwoods League South Division and are now eliminated from first half playoff contention.

The Chinooks scored one run in each of the first three innings while the Mallards only run came in the fifth. Mallards starter Christian Taugner (Brown) threw five innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out one in the loss.

Chinooks starter Luke Lowrey (Southern Mississippi) let up one run on three hits in five innings of work to get the win.

The Mallards return to the "Duck Pond" on Monday to play a split doubleheader against the La Crosse Loggers starting at 12:05 pm. The second game of the doubleheader will be played in La Crosse at 7:05 pm.

Monday is Wisconsin PBS Kids Day and fans will be able to meet Clifford the Big Red Dog. Free Clifford books are available to the first 250 kids, courtesy of Scholastic. It is also Child Care Appreciation Day.
