Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs and Duluth Huskies played the final game of their two-game series at Joannes Stadium on Sunday. Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) gave up just two hits to the Huskies and Green Bay put together a four-run fifth inning to defeat Duluth by a score of 4-3.

The Bullfrogs four runs in the fifth inning put them ahead after falling behind 2-0. Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) started things with a double before Matt Beaty (Belmont) hit a single to put runners on first and third with one out for the Bullfrogs. Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne) then plated de la Rosa on an RBI single to score the first Bullfrogs run of the game.

Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) then came to the plate in the fifth inning and hit a double down the left field line that scored Beaty and Vieitez. Bekakis scored on the same play when the Huskies overthrew the catcher which allowed Bekakis to come all around the bases and score the fourth and final run for the Bullfrogs.

A 4-2 lead was enough for Baroniel who earned his second win of the season on Sunday. Baroniel threw six innings for Green Bay, giving up only two hits and three runs (two earned) to the Huskies, while striking out three.

Sam Brunner (Dodge City CC) threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save for the Bullfrogs.

Riley Sanderson (North Alabama) took the loss for the Huskies, throwing five and one-thirds innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits to the Bullfrogs.

Before Green Bay took a 4-2 lead, Duluth jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Sunday, scoring two runs in their half of the second inning. Dominic Brugnoni (Florida Southern) had a two RBI double that scored Michael Tinsley (Kansas), who reached base on a single, and Austin Christensen (Nebraska), who reached on a walk, to score the first two runs of the game.

Sunday's victory over Duluth was Bullfrogs field manager, Darrell "Skip" Handelsman's, 598th career win.

Green Bay will now close out the first half of their season with a home-and-home double-header on Monday against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Game one is scheduled for 12:05 PM from Joannes Stadium in Green Bay before the two teams head to Wausau for the nightcap at 7:05 PM.
