
Groth and Bailey join Kernels from Tempe

April 29, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that OF Ryan Groth and INF Dwayne Bailey will join the Kernels from extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Wednesday.
Groth, 22, was selected by the Angels in the 22nd round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of Oral Roberts University and played 20 games for the Kernels, batting .224 with 3 HR and 10 RBI. He played 33 games for Orem, batting .286 with 5 HR and 25 RBI.
Bailey, 22, was selected by the Angels in the 21st round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of the University of Central Florida. He spent 2008 at Orem, batting .286 with a HR, 17 RBI and seven stolen bases in 37 games.
To make room on the Kernels active roster, INF Hector Estrella and INF/OF Carlos Colmenares have been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga of the California League.
Groth and Bailey arrive in Cedar Rapids this afternoon and will be in uniform and available for tonight's 6:35 pm game with the West Michigan Whitecaps. With today's roster moves, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with two players currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels begin a six game home stand today at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium with three games against West Michigan followed by three games against Peoria. Tickets for the upcoming series may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
