Grizzlies' Win Streak Snapped in Evansville

Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Evansville, IN - The Gateway Grizzlies gave up runs to the Evansville Otters in each of their first four turns at bat and five of the first six innings overall, falling behind early and never recovering in an 8-2 loss at Bosse Field on Tuesday night.
Joey Gonzalez (3-5) struggled, giving up a home run leading off the first inning to Noah Myers, then two more runs in the second and third as Gateway fell behind 1-0, then 3-0, and then 5-0. After a solo home run by Clint Freeman got Gateway on the board in the top of the fourth, a leadoff double ended the Grizzlies' starter's day, and the Otters scored that run back in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 6-1.
In the sixth, Freeman led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 6-2, but an error opened the door for a two-out double by Bryan Rosario in the bottom half, making the score 8-2. Those runs were the only tallies against the Grizzlies' bullpen, both unearned, as Nathanial Tate and Zac Treece combined to toss the final five innings of the contest for the Grizzlies.
Offensively, however, Gateway had runners on base all night long but again could not get the big hit they needed, stranding 11 for the game and coming up empty with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-8 in the contest. The loss snapped the Grizzlies' four-game win streak, but did not cost them ground atop the West Division standings, as Schaumburg also lost their contest at Tri-City.
The Grizzlies will look to bounce back in the middle game of the midweek series in Evansville when they send Lukas Veinbergs to the mound on Wednesday, June 28, to do battle with the Otters' ace Tim Holdgrafer at 6:35 p.m. CT.
