Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH- The Cleveland Barons owned an early 3-0 lead, but couldn't hold it against a feisty Utah Grizzly team that battled back for a 5-3 win. Utah won the four game regular season series 3-1-0 with the Barons.
The game started in a similar fashion to the game played on Friday night at the Gund against Utah. Jeff Nelson extended his point streak to six consecutive games, scoring the game's first goal for the second consecutive game. Keith McCambridge rifled a shot on net and Nelson would put the puck away on the rebound. McCambridge was just getting started though. The Barons defenseman would assist on an Eric LaPlante goal pushing the lead to 2-0. Feeding off the momentum, the Barons got a goal from a new source. Willie Levesque, playing in his 50th career AHL game, scored the first goal of his professional career. Eric LaPlante and Graig Mischler assisted on the goal.
The second period started with a fight between Cleveland's Yuri Moscevsky and Utah's Dan Jancevski. Although Moscevsky got the better of the fight, Utah would be the benefactors. Utah scored two goals within seventeen seconds of each other. Not content with the one goal deficit, Eric Landry went top-shelf on Vesa Toskala to knot the game up at 3-3.
Utah took an early third period lead when Marc-Andre Thinel was able to slip the puck through Toskala's five-hole with one second on a power play remaining. After cushioning their lead to two with a Bubba Berenzweig goal, Utah tried to close the game. But Miroslav Zalesak brought Cleveland back. After David Cloutier dumped the puck in behind the net, Zalesak picked the puck up and deflected a shot off of the back of Utah goaltender Corey Hirsch. For Zalesak, it was his seventh point since he returned to the lineup four games ago from injury.
The Barons will hit the road for three consecutive games before returning home on Tuesday, March 18th at 7:05 against Grand Rapids. Every Tuesday with the Barons is "Two for Tuesday's". All fans purchasing club seats will receive a two-for-one ticket deal. Tickets for this deal can be purchased at the Gund Arena Box Office on the day of the game only. All other tickets can be purchased by calling the Barons front office at 216-420-0000 or by Crashing the Net on www.clevelandbarons.net.
