SETUP: The Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers will meet for the sixth time this season and the fourth time in Springfield. The Falcons are 0-5-0 against the Sound Tigers this year, including 0-3-0 at "The Nest." The last time these two teams met was on February 22nd when the Sound Tigers beat the Falcons 4-2. In that game Bridgeport scored the first four goals of the game. Alain Nasreddine opened the scoring in the first period to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead. Jeremy Addouno made it a 2-0 game in the second period when he scored on the power play. Konstantin Kalmikov made it a 3-0 game just 30 seconds into the third period and Jeff Hamilton would complete the Sound Tigers scoring at 7:41 of the third period to give Bridgeport a 4-0 lead. The Falcons would try to rally late in the game with goals from Jeff Taffe and Corey Foster, but could not complete the comeback. Scott Stirling made 31 saves in recording the win for the Sound Tigers.
The Falcons enter tonight's game coming off a 2-1 overtime win last night against the Manchester Monarchs at "The Nest." Sheldon Keefe gave Springfield a 1-0 lead in the first period. Eric Healey would tie the game for the Monarchs in the third period at
1-1. Brian Holzinger would score the game-winning goal with 41 seconds remaining in the overtime period to give the Falcons a 2-1 win. Jean-Marc Pelletier made 38 saves, including two on breakaways and 11 in the overtime period, in recording his 10th win as a member of the Falcons. Travis Scott made 35 saves for the Monarchs. Springfield enters tonight's game with a record of 27-31-6-1 good for 61 points and 10th place in the Eastern Conference. The Falcons are currently six points behind the ninth seeded Worcester IceCats and the eighth seeded Hartford Wolf Pack. Jeff Taffe leads the Falcons in scoring against the Sound Tigers with one goal and two assists for three points. Corey Foster leads the team in goals scored against the Sound Tigers with two.
Bridgeport enters tonight's game after defeating the Binghamton Senators 4-1 last night in Bridgeport. Trent Hunter gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission and Martin Chabada made it a 2-0 game before Radim Bicanek scored with just 31 seconds remaining in the second period to cut the Bridgeport lead in half at 2-1. The Sound Tigers would score two unanswered goals in the third period from Justin Mapletoft and Jeff Hamilton. Rick DiPietro made 21 saves in recording the win. Bridgeport is currently in first place in the East Division and in third place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 33-22-9-3 for 78 points. Alan Letang leads the Sound Tigers in scoring against the Falcons this season with one goal and five assists for six points. Konstantin Kalmikov leads the team in goals scored against the Falcons with three. Brandon Smith, Martin Chabada, and Jeff Hamilton have scored two goals each against the Falcons this season.
RAMZI ABID RETURNS TO FALCONS' LINEUP: The Phoenix Coyotes reassigned forward Ramzi Abid to the Falcons last night. In 30 NHL games he has 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points. In 27 games with the Falcons this year Ramzi has 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points. Ramzi last played for the Falcons back on 12/13/02 against the St. John's Maple Leafs and currently has the Falcons longest active point-scoring streak at four games.
SOUND TIGERS' NOTEABLES: Forward Jeff Hamilton has a four-game point-scoring streak, with three goals and one assist in those games... Defenseman Brandon Smith has one goal and one assist in two games since being reassigned by the New York Islanders... Forward Raffi Torres had an eight-game point-scoring streak snapped last night against the Binghamton Senators.
