Grizzlies Take 5-Game Winning Streak to Midwest

This Situation

The Grizzlies carry a five-game winning streak into their four-game in five night road trip to Quad City and Indianapolis that opens Wednesday.

The Streak

Utah's five-game winning streak is tied with Fort Wayne for the longest current winning streak in the ECHL.

Playing With A Lead

Utah has trailed for only 12:45 of the 305 minutes played during their current five-game winning streak and it was Saturday night at 3-2 Wichita. They have been tied for 85:57 and held the lead for 206:58 during the last five games.

Back Home

Utah returns home Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. for the first of our Metro PCS Pack The House Fridays. Fans can get vouchers to purchase $8 tickets for the game at any Wasatch Front area Metro PCS location.

Saturday, March 10 is the Grizzlies final Postgame Skate with the Grizzlies of the season after their game with Allen at 7 p.m.

Shuffling The Deck

Utah's five-game winning streak coincides with some recent roster moves. Goaltender Joel Rumpel is 4-1 with Utah with a 2.90 Goals-Against-Average and a .918 Save Percentage. Jake Marchment has three power-play goals and two assists in five games since being acquired from Colorado on February 15. He has given Utah a 1-0 first period lead on the power-play in three of his five games with the Grizzlies. Also acquired from Colorado on February 15, Defenseman Gage Ausmus has one assist and is a plus-three in five games with Utah. Recently signed Free Agent Sam Babintsev scored the game-winning goal in the shootout Saturday and had three assists against Wichita over the weekend. Just out of the University of Lethbridge, Mitch Maxwell recorded his first professional point Friday.

Goaltender's Records

Grizzlies Goaltenders Joel Rumpel and Sean Maguire have a combined ECHL record this year of 26-17-1 as Rumpel is 4-1 with Utah and 15-9 overall. Maguire is 4-3-1-0 with Utah and 11-8-1-0 overall. Maguire was assigned to Utah by the Arizona Coyotes on January 17 and Rumpel was acquired in a trade with Wichita on February 8.

Winning Streak Special Teams

Utah is 7-23 (30.4-percent) on the power-play during their current five-game winning streak and has outscored the opposition 10-4 overall on special teams as they've also added three shorthanded goals.

Ortega's Specialty

Utah rookie Austin Ortega has 16 of his 33 points in 23 games on the power-play. He's second among ECHL rookies with seven of his 14 goals coming on the power-play. Utah's power-play is 27 for the last 102 (26.4-percent) since Ortega joined the Grizzlies as he has eight goals and eight assists. Prior to Ortega's arrival, Utah was 17 for 157 on the power-play for a 10.8-percent conversion rate. The California native has a Utah season-high seven game scoring streak entering the week.

Fans can get the latest on the Grizzlies every day on ESPN 700 as "Voice of the Grizzlies" Adrian Denny delivers the morning report at 11:25 a.m. with Grizzlies In 60 during "The Bill Riley Show" followed by the afternoon report at 3:25 p.m. with Grizzlies In 60 during "Gunther and Hackett." Utah Grizzlies Radio is Fueled by the Rocky Mountain Propane Association.

Official Country Station

Z-104, Utah's #1 Country Station, returns as the Official Country Station of the Grizzlies with select games broadcast live on the legendary KSOP AM 1370/104.3 FM HD-2; featuring Utah's Classic Country. Denny joins Dave and Deb the Friday of every weekend home stand just after 9 a.m. on Z-104, followed by a visit with Country Joe on AM 1370/104.3 FM HD-2.

Television Coverage

KMYU has begun its sixth season of televising Grizzlies games this season with the next broadcast coming up Friday, March 9 as Denny joins Adam Mikulich from 2 News Talkin' Sports. Grizzlies television broadcasts are presented by Operation Lifesaver.
