Darian Dziurzynski piled up two goals and two assists and Etienne Marcoux made 24 saves in relief for the host Indy Fuel, who ripped off six second period goals- including a vital pair on the power play in the final minute of the second- on the way to a wild 8-7 win over the Mallards.

Friday, February 23

Indy 4 Quad City 2

Alex Wideman and Robin Press provided a goal and an assist apiece and Etienne Marcoux made 32 saves as the host Indy Fuel defeated the Mallards 4-2.

Saturday, February 24

Indy 6 Quad City 4

Matt Iacopelli broke loose for a hat trick to lead the host Indy Fuel past the Mallards 6-4.

QUACK TRACKS

Sweep

The Mallards fell to the Fuel three times in as many nights in Indianapolis last week.

Three in Three

The Mallards this weekend face their fourth stretch of three games in three days in as many weekends and their eighth this season. The Mallards have gone 3-3-1 when playing for the third time in as many days.

Busy

The Mallards play four games in five days beginning Wednesday and, over the longer haul, play their final 32 games over 67 days.

February

The Mallards Wednesday night play their final game of February, their busiest month of the season. The Mallards have gone 7-6-0 this month.

Division

The Mallards Saturday completed a stretch of ten straight games (4-6-0) against Central Division opponents.

Home Cooking

The Mallards have won back-to-back home games and gone 6-2-0 in their last eight on home ice.

The Mallards have lost their last four road games.

Outside the Box

The Mallards are the second least penalized team in the ECHL. They average 10.1 minutes in the box per game.

Fuel Stop

The Mallards lost the final five games of their 11-game season series against the Fuel. They finished 4-7-0 against Indy and went 0-5-0 in Indianapolis this season. Between this season and last, the Mallards have dropped their last seven games at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Mallards last won in Indianapolis when they defeated the Fuel 5-1 on January 29, 2017.

Three Strikes

The Mallards Thursday jumped out to a 3-0 lead but went on to relinquish that advantage. One night later Indy scored the first three goals and was able to hold off the Mallards.

Highs

The Fuel Thursday equaled a league single period season high by scoring six goals in the second. The Mallards Thursday set team season highs for goals scored in one game, goals surrendered in one period, power play goals allowed in one game (four), power play goals given up in one period (three in the second), number of times shorthanded (eight) in one game and shots in one period (22 in the third). The Mallards matched team season highs for goals allowed in one game and goals scored in one period (four in the first).

Multiplicity

Five Mallards- Tristan King (2-2-4), Brayden Low (2-1-3), Alex Globke (1-2-3), Jake Bolton (1-1-2) and Willie Raskob (0-2-2)- recorded two or more points Thursday.

Déjà vu

Thursday's defeat was the Mallards' second 8-7 loss in Indianapolis in just under a year. They fell by the same score at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on March 19, 2017. That game marked the last time before Thursday the Mallards had scored seven goals in one contest and conceded six in one period (the first).

Rapid Fire

The Mallards surrendered goals less than half a minute apart twice in the second period Thursday. Zach Miskovic and Dziurzynski scored the fifth (11:21) and sixth (11:49) Indy goals 28 seconds apart. Alex Wideman and Robin Press provided the seventh (19:12) and eighth (19:38) Fuel goals in a span of 26 seconds. The Mallards and Fuel combined to produce the two quickest goals of that game in the first period. After Indy's Matt Rupert cut what had been a two-goal Mallard lead to 3-2 at 13:35, Globke put the Mallards back up by two at 13:53. Goals again arrived in quick succession Saturday. Just 19 seconds separated the Fuel's third goal (scored by Ryan Rupert at 16:10 of the first period) and the Mallards' second (Matt Pohlkamp at 16:29). The wild weekend ended with one final flurry: three goals in one minute, 16 seconds. Low narrowed Indy's lead to 5-3 at 16:37 of the third period Saturday. Johnny McInnis replied with the sixth Fuel goal a mere 39 seconds later (17:16). Just 37 seconds after the McInnis strike- at 17:53- the Mallards' Chris Izmirlian reduced the deficit to the final margin of two.

Big Al

Globke is on a six-game point-scoring streak (4-6-10), tied for the longest Mallard point streak this season. He totaled five points (two goals and three assists) in the Mallards' three games last week. Globke is now tied for second in the ECHL in shorthanded goals (3) after scoring shorthanded Friday.

Long Live the King

King's four-game goal-scoring streak (6-3-9) and six-game point-scoring streak (8-4-12) ended Saturday. King has scored 11 times- and collected five assists- in his last 12 games and totaled 20 points (12 goals and eight assists) in his last 15 games.

Low Down

Low has moved into the team lead in points (35) while going on a four-game point-scoring streak (4-2-6). Low overtook Sam Warning- who recorded 31 points before signing a professional tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda earlier this month- for the team lead by piling up three points Thursday.

Magnificent Magyar

Gergo Nagy was in the midst of a six-game point-scoring streak (3-6-9) when he signed a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Chicago Wolves Friday.

Helping Hand

Raskob is tied for third among ECHL rookies and tied for fourth among defensemen in assists (29).

Between the Pipes

C.J. Motte made seven straight starts (4-3-0) in goal before signing a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Stockton Heat Saturday. Eric Hartzell made his first appearance since he played in relief January 5 in Wichita when he replaced Motte in the second period of Friday's game. The following evening Hartzell (34 saves) made his first start since stopping 38 shots in a 6-1 New Year's Eve loss in Kalamazoo.

Special Teams

The Fuel started their three-game series with the Mallards by going 4-for-8 on the power play Thursday and went on to go 6-for-14 over those three contests. The Mallards Thursday gave up four power play goals for the first time since doing so in a 5-2 loss to the Wheeling Nailers on January 27, 2017. The Mallards did scored shorthanded against the Fuel Thursday (Low) and Friday (Globke) but also allowed a shorthanded goal Thursday. The Mallards have scored shorthanded seven times and have surrendered 12 shorthanded goals- tied for most in the ECHL. The Mallards rank fifteenth in the ECHL on the power play (16.9 percent) and twenty-fifth in penalty killing (78.0 percent).

Head to Head

This week's games are the Mallards' only clashes with Utah this season. The Mallards won their lone prior meeting with the Grizzlies 4-2 on home ice on March 2, 2016...Saturday's game is the eighth of nine between the Mallards and Cyclones. The Mallards defeated Cincinnati 4-3 on January 31 at the TaxSlayer Center after going winless (0-4-2) in their first six get-togethers with the Cyclones. The Mallards have gone 0-3-1 at U.S. Bank Arena this season. All-time, the Mallards have gone 9-15-4 overall against the Cyclones and 6-7-1 in Cincinnati...The Mallards and Komets conclude their nine-game season series Sunday. The Mallards have gone 1-6-1 against Fort Wayne and have posted a record of 0-2-1 at home against the Komets. The Mallards have gone 55-62-12 all-time against the Komets.

Ins and Outs

Goaltender Ivan Kulbakov was loaned to the Mallards by Cleveland (AHL) Saturday...Goaltender C.J. Motte signed a professional tryout agreement with Stockton (AHL) Saturday...Forward Triston King was suspended by the ECHL for five games Friday after being assessed a match penalty Thursday against Indy...Forward Gergo Nagy signed a professional tryout agreement with Chicago (AHL) Friday...Forward Keegan Kolesar was reassigned from the Mallards to Chicago (AHL) by Vegas (NHL) Monday.

Dogs- and their humans- will be welcome at Pucks and Paws. A special area inside the TaxSlayer Center will be set aside for dogs and their owners during the game. A portion of proceeds from Pucks and Paws ticket sales will benefit area human societies.

Sodas are available for just $1 at TaxSlayer Center concession stands during Sunday home games.

Skate with the Mallards

After every Sunday home game, fans will have a chance to join players on the ice and skate with the Mallards.

Fox Sports Radio 1230 is the radio home of Mallards Hockey Presented by Genesis Orthopedic Hospital. Mallards games broadcast on AM 1230 also stream live online at www.wfxn.net. A limited number of Mallards games- including Wednesday's game against Utah- will not air on Fox Sports Radio 1230 due to conflicts with University of Illinois basketball and football and Green Bay Packer football. ECHL-TV pay-per-view video webcasts and free audio webcasts of all Mallards games are also available at myqcmallards.net.
