Mavs Minutes
A Walk In The Parks
Mavric Parks recorded his first ECHL shutout with a 1-0 win over the Allen Americans on Saturday to complete the weekend sweep over the Mavericks' rival. Parks recorded 22 saves in the game while holding Allen off the board for the final 92:59 of the two-game set, helping guide the Mavericks to two key wins. Saturday's game was the first 1-0 win for KC since Nov. 7, 2015 over Wichita, when Parker Milner turned away 25 shots on goal.
Comeback Kids
The Mavericks overcame a 3-1 second-period deficit on Friday en route to a come-from-behind 6-3 win over the Allen Americans. Kansas City was spurred by two goals each from Alex Brooks and Shawn Pauly over the final 22 minutes of play in the game before Matt Robertson added an empty-netter to clinch the victory. The game was the fourth time this year that the Mavericks earned two points after trailing through two periods of play and was only the third time this season that Allen did not get at least a point when leading after 40 minutes.
Grinding Teams Down
Entering this week's action, the Mavericks have proven an ability to grind teams down in their own end over the course of a game. Period-by-period, the Mavericks' scoring for the season increases with 45 goals in the first period, 46 in the second and 52 in the third. Kansas City also has an impressive 7-2 record in games that go past regulation, including a 4-0 record in overtime.
Home Stretch
As the calendar flips to March this weekend, the playoff race hits full volume. Kansas City is currently on the outside looking in but is only three points out of the fourth and final spot in the Central Division as one member of a four-team log jam for the final two spots in the Central. The Mavericks have only six games remaining against Central Division opponents - four at home (two against Fort Wayne, one against Quad City and Indy) and two on the road (one at Fort Wayne, one at Indy). The remainder of games will come against Mountain Division opponents - the division against which the Mavericks have the best record of any this season.
Brooks Strikes Twice
Alex Brooks entered Friday's game with zero goals on the year but lit the lamp twice over the final 22 minutes of play. His first goal proved to be the turning point in the game, cutting a 3-1 deficit in half with less than two minutes remaining in the second period to seize momentum heading into the locker room. The second score came in the final frame to put KC up by a pair, following two goals from Shawn Pauly.
