Grizzlies Sunk By Admirals

The Utah Grizzlies hit the ice twice this past week as they dropped a 7-3 and 6-3 decision to the Milwaukee Admirals. In both games, the Grizzlies dug themselves big holes trailing 6-0 on Friday night before rallying to close to within 6-3 and trailing 4-0 on Saturday night before making the game a little closer. Jeff Taffe scored two goals and had an assist in the two games and Peter White had a pair of helpers. Martin Sonnenberg extended his point streak to three games (2-1 –3) with a goal on Saturday and an assist on Friday. Utah's Doug Doull racked up 48 penalty minutes in the two games giving him 83 (just outside the top 10 in the league).

Jarrod Skalde Returns to Utah

~On Saturday, the Grizzlies acquired center Jarrod Skalde from the Springfield Falcons in exchange for center Jason Jaspers. Skalde played last season with Utah and led the team in scoring with 23 goals and 38 assists. This past summer, he signed a two-year contract with Tampa Bay and began the season in Springfield where he played 15 games scoring one goal with five assists. Skalde was named the Grizzlies Most Valuable Player last year and was also named the Fan Favorite. In his career, the Niagara Falls, Ontario native has played in 929 professional games.

David Letterman Named President of the Grizzlies Fan Club

~Grizzlies Manager of Community Relations Mikie Hayhurst was a participant last Thursday night on the Late Show with David Letterman's audience activity, "Know Your Current Events". Hayhurst was asked questions about the new Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas and also commented about the American Hockey League and the Grizzlies.

Future Stars On Display This Week at the ‘E' Center:

~Three of the top prospects playing in the AHL this season will make their way to Utah for a pair of games this week as the San Antonio Rampage come to town on Tuesday and Wednesday. Center Nathan Horton was the #3 pick overall in the 2003 NHL Draft and played 55 games with Florida last year scoring 14 goals as an 18-year-old. Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was the #3 overall pick in 2002 and he played 61 games with Florida scoring 20 points (2-18 –20). Center Stephen Weiss was the #4 overall pick in 2001. He played 50 games with Florida last season scoring 29 points (12-17 –29).
