
Grizzlies Sign Nick Naumenko

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH * The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Phoenix Coyotes, announced today that that have signed defenseman Nick Naumenko to a professional tryout. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. In a separate move, the Grizzlies have released defenseman Jonathan Zion.
This will be the third time the 5-11, 193-pound defenseman has been a member of the Grizzlies. Last season, Naumenko played in 46 games for Utah and during the 1998-99 season he dressed in 20 games for the Grizzlies.
Naumenko, 30, ranked second among defensemen in scoring last season for Utah with five goals and 15 assists. His 20 points also ranked him eighth overall on the team and his three power play goals were the most among blueliners.
The Chicago native has played 246 career games in the AHL and 206 career games in the International Hockey League (IHL). In his career, Naumenko has scored 70 goals with 220 assists.
The former eighth round draft selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 1992 NHL draft was regarded as one of the top collegiate players for the University of North Dakota between 1992-96. During his college days with the Fighting Sioux, Naumenko totaled 140 points (38 goals, 102 assists) in 146 games.
The Grizzlies host the defending Calder Cup champion Milwaukee Admirals tonight at the âE' Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Call (801) 988-PUCK (7825) for ticket information.
