Hershey Bears News Release

10:21:00 PM - Eric Perrin and Marek Svatos scored in the shootout to propel the BEARS to a 1-0 overtime win at Syracuse Friday night. The win was the first of the season for HERSHEY, and also the first in the new shootout format in the American Hockey League.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie after two periods, with Syracuse outshooting the BEARS 16-13 after forty minutes. HERSHEY had a five minute power play in the first period when Syracuse's Andre Lakos high sticked Mathieu Darche. The BEARS fired a season low four shots on goal in the second period, but still went to the dressing room tied at zero.

The game would go to overtime, with the shootout needed for the first time this season. Eric Perrin and Marek Svatos would convert against Pascal Leclaire while Joe Motzko was the only goal scorer in the shootout for the Crunch.

Peter Budaj made 35 saves for his first shutout of the season. He was also named the game's number one star. Perrin's goal in the shootout earned him number two star honors, while Syracuse's Pascal Leclaire was the number three star.

The BEARS will host Rochester Saturday at GIANT Center at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
