Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs suffered their first home loss of the season at the hands of the Philadelphia Phantoms Friday evening at Copps Coliseum. It was only the second loss in regulation for the Bulldogs, with the first coming against the Phantoms last week.
Earning the win for the Phantoms was Antero Nittymaki who put aside 29 of 30 Bulldogs shots. Dan Ellis stopped 20 shots in a losing cause for the Bulldogs who dropped to 3-2-2-0 on the season.
The Phantoms opened the scoring at the 1:20 mark of the first period on a goal by Freddy Meyer. Meyer let a wrist shot go from the point that managed to squeak by a screened Dan Ellis.
The Bulldogs would answer back halfway through the period on a power play goal by Jason Ward. Ward attempted a pass cross-crease but it was broken up leaving a wide open net for his second goal of the season. The goal came at the 12:22 mark and was assisted by Tomas Plekanec, who now has a four-game point streak.
Philadelphia would strike three times in the second period. The first goal, a power play marker, came six minutes into the period on a shot by Phantoms defenceman Dennis Seidenberg that beat Ellis through the five-hole.
Randy Jones would score twenty-six seconds later to help his team to a 3-1 lead.
With less than a minute left in the period Philadelphia would add another on a strange bounce off of an official that allowed winger Ben Eager to bury his first of the season into an empty net.
Both goalies were perfect in the third period, leaving Philadelphia with a three-goal lead and the win.
The Bulldogs' next action will take place on Saturday, October 30th when they will travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch. Game time will be 7:30pm and fans can listen to all the action live at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com or AM 820-CHAM.
