Grizzlies Return Home and Beat Idaho 5-4

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Idaho Steelheads 5-4 Saturday night at Maverik Center before 6,014 fans.

Utah broke a 2-2 tie going to the third period with three goals in a 5:13 span to build a 5-2 lead, before Idaho stormed back with two goals in 3:11 to make it 5-4 with 9:23 left. Utah Head Coach Kevin Colley called timeout and Utah held on, blocking several shots and allowing just four shots on Shane Owen to seal the win.

"We need to play 60 minutes, we probably played 56 minutes tonight, but we need 60 to play how we want to be and that's an elite team," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "I like my team when we play the right way."

Bryan Cameron (15) made it 3-2 44 seconds into the third period as he backhanded a shot short side top shelf from the near side of the net on the power-play. Utah made it 4-2 at 5:09 of the frame after Ian Schultz chased down a puck, won a battle and then went in front of the net where Adam Estoclet found him for a shot through traffic. Colin Vock scored the eventual game-winner 48 seconds later as Vock fired a shot just wide on an odd-man rush from Mitch Wahl, but Tommy Maxwell forced the puck free and Vock knocked in the rebound for his 18th goal of the year.

The Grizzlies battled back from a 2-1 deficit in the second period as Mitch Wahl (18) snuck in a loose puck with 5:14 left in the period. Utah then killed a penalty to keep the score 2-2 at the second intermission.

Utah took a 1-0 lead 8:54 into the first period as Schultz forced another puck free and led James Martin up ice. Martin one handed the puck past the blue line and centered David Eddy for the goal.

Shane Owen earned the victory in goal by stopping 23 of 27 shots. Utah outshot Idaho 39-27, including 16-4 in the second period.

ECHL leading scorer Mitch Wahl extended his scoring streak to 11-straight contests in the game with one goal and one assist.

The Grizzlies host Idaho again Sunday at 4 p.m. from Maverik Center.
