Idaho Steelheads News Release
West Valley City, UT (2/10/13) - Tristan King picked up five points and Josh Robinson pitched his first professional shutout Sunday afternoon as the Idaho Steelheads rolled past the Utah Grizzlies, 6-0.
With the win, Idaho (31-13-5) matches its win total for all of last season and moves to within four points of formally clinching an ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs berth.
Only one puck found the back of the net in the first and it was Tyler Gron going top shelf over Shane Owen's blocker on a 5-on-3 power play at 12:52 of the period to make it 1-0. That would hold until the early stages of the second period when Matt Case's blast from the top of the right circle found the back of the net, his sixth of the season, at 1:57 of the second to make it 2-0.
Idaho would play add-on later in the second. At 5:04, King pounced on a loose puck at the edge of the crease and snapped home his 16th of the season to increase the lead to 3-0. David Toews would extend the lead to four goals with his eighth of the season, six with Idaho since joining the team in early January, at 9:20 of the second.
A chippy game boiled over in the third when Utah's Tommy Maxwell jumped on Idaho's Ian Watters, drawing a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct. During the ensuing power plays, King netted his second of the night at 12:24 and Bryce Reddick picked up his first professional goal, a sharp wrist-shot from the left-hand circle at 14:56 of the third to close out the scoring at 6-0.
Josh Robinson stopped all 34 shots he faced on the evening to pick up his 17th win of the season in the net. It's his first pro shutout. Shane Owen takes the loss, allowing 6 goals on 44 shots. The 44 shots ties a season high for Idaho.
King (2 goals, 3 assists), Gron (1 goal, 2 assists), Jace Coyle (3 assists), Toews (1 goal, 1 assist) and Case (1 goal, 1 assist) all picked up multiple points in the win.
The Steelheads return home on Tuesday to host the expansion San Francisco Bulls for the first time in Boise. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office at 208.331.8497 or by going online at www.idahosteelheads.com
