Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Jake Gannon and named him the captain for the 2010-2011 season. He replaces Ryan Kinasewich who will play in Europe this upcoming season.

Gannon, 23, split his rookie season in 2009-2010 between Utah where he played 38 regular season games and Bridgeport of the AHL where he skated in 26 contests. He totaled two goals, four assists and a plus-two in 38 games with Utah while totaling two goals and two assists with Bridgeport.

"I see Jake as having potential to play at the highest level of hockey," said Colley. "He plays the style of a Dion Phaneuf (Toronto, NHL) but I think he has more of an upside offensively and we will be looking for him to contribute in that area as well."

The six-foot-one defenseman returned from the AHL on April 13, 2010 for Utah's fifth and deciding game of the first round playoff series against Las Vegas and totaled two assists, a plus-two and four shots as Utah defeated the Wranglers 5-1 advancing to the second round. "We saw in game five how Jake can take over and dominate a game at this level," said Colley. "Fans can be excited to remember that in a Utah uniform he gives 110-percent on the ice and that his willingness and character is second to none."

This marks the second time in three years that Gannon will serve as team captain. He wore the "C" on his sweater during his senior season at Colorado College in 2008-2009.

The Grizzlies open the 2010-2011 season Friday, October 15 in Alaska with the home opener being Friday, October 22 when Utah welcomes Bakersfield to Maverik Center. Season ticket packages starting at $7 a game for seven games are available through the Grizzlies corporate office by calling (801) 988-8000. Visit www.utahgrizzlies.com for more information.
