"Chris and Samson are consistent with the model that we wanted to pursue this offseason," Jackals head coach Malcolm Cameron said. "They are both young, skilled, and hungry players."
Moran, a native of Buffalo, N.Y. is Niagara University's all-time assists leader with 103 and fourth all-time leading scorer with 141 career points.
In his senior year at Niagara of 2009-2010, Moran topped the Purple Eagles with 42 points and 33 assists, leading the College Hockey America (CHA) conference in both departments. Moran tied for the team lead in points with 31 and assists with 19 in his junior year of 2008-2009.
Prior to a sophomore year in which he was fourth on the Purple Eagles with 28 points (8g-20a), Moran was named the CHA's Rookie of the Year in 2006-2007, leading the conference with 31 assists, a total that stands as a Purple Eagles freshman record.
"Chris had an outstanding four year college career, put up excellent numbers and is certainly very good on the power play," Jackals head coach Malcolm Cameron said. "He also sees the ice very well."
"When I talked to Coach Cameron, he had a lot of good things to say about Elmira and the area as well. My coaches have told me a lot about Elmira and Coach Cameron and I have heard a lot of good things about his teams and the success that he has had in the ECHL," Moran said.
Mahbod finished his fifth and final season in Quebec junior hockey in 2009-2010, leading the Prince Edward Island Rocket (QMHJL) with 64 points and 44 assists. In the first round round of the QMJHL playoffs, Mahbod recorded five assists, scoring at a point per game in the postseason.
A Montreal, Quebec native, Mahbod was fourth on the Drummondville Voltiguers (QMJHL) in 2008-2009 with 79 points, 49 assists, and 30 goals. Mahbod had five goals and eight assists in the 2008-2009 postseason as Drummondville won the QMJHL championship before falling in the semifinals of the Memorial Cup.
In 2007-2008, Mahbod split time with Drummondville and the Vaudreuil Mustangs (QJAHL), leading the Mustangs with 65 points and 43 assists in 36 games. With Vaudreuil in 2006-2007, Mahbod notched 35 points (10g-25a) and 126 penalty minutes. In that same season, he played nine games for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL), posting a goal and an assist. Mahbod played five games with the Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL) in 2005-2006.
"Samson had a great junior career and has good Memorial Cup experience. He is very fast with an excellent shot and should be a force to be reckoned with this season," Cameron said.
