Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies rallied to defeat the Sacramento River Cats for the second night in a row after they beat the visitors 5-2 on Saturday at Chukchansi Park.
After falling behind 2-0 in the fifth inning, the Grizzlies quickly rallied to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame. Ydwin Villegas drove in his fifth run over his last two games with an RBI single, and Gary Brown hit a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 2-2.
In the sixth, Chris Dominguez placed a single through the hole at shortstop to score Johnny Monell for the eventual game-winning run. Dominguez finished with two hits, giving him 17 hits over his last nine games.
Fresno starting pitcher Eric Surkamp led the charge for the Grizzlies hurlers by holding the River Cats to two runs over six innings. Surkamp has a winning decision in each of his two Fresno starts.
The Grizzlies bullpen, Mason Tobin, Dan Runzler, and Jean Machi, combined for three perfect innings. Machi picked up his second save of the season after throwing the scoreless ninth inning. Fresno relievers have not allowed a run in their last 12 1/3 innings.
The Grizzlies added two runs in the seventh on RBIs by PCL All-Stars Brett Pill and Roger Kieschnick. Pill has 65 RBIs this season with the Grizzlies.
Sacramento starting pitcher Bruce Billings did not factor into the decision after allowing two runs over five innings. Pedro Figueroa allowed Dominguez's go-ahead single to suffer the loss.
Juan Perez had three hits for the Grizzlies in his first game back with Fresno since being optioned from San Francisco.
The win gives the Grizzlies their first back-to-back wins at home since June 12th and 13th. The victory was also Fresno's 22nd comeback win of the year.
The final game of the four-game series between Fresno and Sacramento will be on Sunday at 6:05 pm. Right-hander Justin Fitzgerald will take the bump for the Grizzlies and face Travis Banwart of Sacramento.
