Grizzlies Fight Back Down 3; Fall in OT

October 24, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (1-1-1-0) battled back from a 3-0 first period deficit to tie, but fell to the Las Vegas Wranglers (2-0) 4-3 in overtime Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Las Vegas jumped to an early 3-0 lead with three goals in 4:32 from 3:35 to 8:07 of the opening period.

"We spotted them that 3-0 lead, but you have to give our boys credit though, they battled back," said Head Coach/GM Tim Branham. "Every single game we've played, we've taken the pace to the other team, but we need to find a way to play the whole 60 minutes."

Utah, however, got back into the game as Brent Gwidt slammed in his first goal of the game with under five seconds left in the first period after Berkley Scott won a few battles to keep the puck alive. Vinny Scarsella also picked up an assist in his first game of the season.

23 seconds into the second period, Jamie MacQueen scored his league leading sixth goal of the year to make it 3-0. MacQueen took a feed from line mate Adam Pineault and worked opposite hand through the circle going top shelf on a great move. Derick Martin tallied the second assist.

The Grizzlies tied things up shorthanded on Gwidt's second goal of the night as he fired on a two-on-one to make it 3-3 10:18 into the period. Channing Boe, who forced the puck free and led Gwidt up ice, picked up an assist.

The game stayed scoreless for over the next 30 minutes, before a Las Vegas tough angle shot won it for the Wranglers.

Friday, the Grizzlies host San Francisco at 7 p.m. We will be giving away a Los Grizzlies team poster featuring player head shots.

Ticket packages for the 2013-2014 season are still on sale and start at just $29. For more information, visit http://www.utahgrizzlies.com or call (801) 988-7825.
