Cyclones Rally to Beat Walleye in OT, 3-2

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Antoine Corbin scored a timely first goal of the season as the Cincinnati Cyclones (2-0-0-0) mounted an impressive comeback and defeated the Toledo Walleye (1-0-1-0) in overtime by a final score of 3-2 in front of 2,432 at U.S. Bank Arena on Thursday night. Successfully killing three opposing power plays and helped by 33 saves from goaltender Rob Madore (W, 33 saves, 1-0-0-0), the Cyclones prevailed to earn their second win in as many games.

The Walleye struck first in a physical first period as Kevin Lynch scored his first professional goal on a wrist shot from the right circle at 2:26. The scoring chance came on the rush after the Cyclones successfully killed an early penalty to David MacDonald. Cincinnati was unable to capitalize on two power play opportunities in the frame and the score held at 1-0 as the teams headed into the first intermission.

Following coincidental minor penalties to Cincinnati's Chris Reed and Toledo's Emerson Clark at 8:06 of the second stanza, Lynch was called for interference, giving the Cyclones 1:13 of a 4-on-3 man advantage. However, the Walleye maintained the one-goal lead, successfully killing the penalty and outshooting the Cyclones 21-16 through two periods.

Lynch struck again just 2:14 of the third frame, scoring his second goal of the contest on a pass from Max Nicastro. But it wasn't long before the Cyclones began an exciting comeback, spearheaded by Paul Crowder's second goal of the season at 8:37 of the third period. Crowder scored on a pass from behind the net by Vinny Saponari, cutting the Walleye's lead in half. Not even three minutes later, John McFarland tapped home his first goal of the season as he poked a loose puck past goaltender Jared Coreau (L, 27 saves, 0-0-1-0) and carried the game into overtime.

Only 1:36 into the extra session, Anthony Luciani dished the puck to Corbin who blasted home a slap shot from the high slot, giving the Cyclones their first overtime victory of the season.

After a practice day on tomorrow, Cincinnati will embark on their first road trip of the regular season as they visit the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:35pm on Saturday night. The Cyclones will return to the ice at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday, November 9 when they play host to the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:30pm.
