Stockton Thunder News Release

The Thunder fell to the Ontario Reign Wednesday night at the Stockton Arena by a score of 4-2 to fall to 1-1 on the young season.

The Stockton Thunder, who had a 2-0 advantage over Ontario at the start of the second period were unable to muster up more goals as the Reign offense gained momentum in the second period, eventually winning the game 4-2.

The game winner was scored by forward Yasin Cisse who deflected the puck past Thunder goalkeeper Parker Milner . Cisse deflected in a shot from defensemen Alex Roach which slipped by Milner.

"The initial shot was going to my left," Milner said. "I want to make a save and he tipped it right through my legs."

With the game tied at two going into the third period the game was up for the taking. Each team had their chances with the Thunders' best chance coming off the stick of defensemen Mike Dalhuisen as he clanked a slap-shot off the post with six minutes left.

The Thunder would bring on the extra attacker after pulling Milner with just under 2 minutes to go in the third. Eventually Dan DaSilva sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with 22 seconds left. It was his second of the night along with his second period tally.

The Thunder got the scoring started in the first period with a goal from right winger Kirill Kabanov off a Joey Martin pass. The Thunder led after one period by the score of 1-0 while outshooting the Reign 13-8.

Right winger Ryan Hayes snagged his first goal of the season in the second period for the Thunder off a nifty feed from Andrew Clark . Clark found a wide open Hayes in the slot who deflected the puck past the stick side of Ontario goaltender Mathias Niederberger. That was the final goal Niederberger would allow as he shut down the Thunder the rest of the way, making a total of 26 saves on 28 shots.

The Reign would responded quickly with a goal from forward Mario Lamourex about a minute and a half later. The goal ended the Thunder scoreless streak to begin the season at 84 minutes and 48 seconds. A little over five minutes later, Ontario forward Dan DaSilva screened Milner and ended up getting a stick on the puck to tie the game up at two.

Milner, who started his first professional game after a decorated collegiate career at Boston College, would end the night stopping 23 of 26 shots. All three of the goals he allowed came off the Reign getting bodies in front of the Stockton netminder and getting sticks to shots from distance.

"I thought they scored their goals on point shots with traffic going on net," Coach Rich Kromm said. "That seemed to be what they started to do, getting [the puck] back to the top and throwing it at the net. It worked out three times for them".

The Thunder are back in action this Friday night as they travel down to Bakersfield to face the Condors with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. Video coverage will be provided on AmericaOne while the audio only coverage can be found at StocktonThunder.com and on Spreaker and the Spreaker app. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:15 p.m.

The Thunder will return to Stockton Arena on November 1 and 2 for a two game set against the Utah Grizzlies. These games will be a part of Thunder Goes Pink VIII where the ice will be dyed pink and the Thunder will wear special jerseys for the occasion. The Pink Ticket Plan is available to fans and it includes 2 tickets to a Thunder Goes Pink VIII game and 4 vouchers to a 2013-14 regular season home game.
