Utah Grizzlies News Release

ROSEMONT, ILL - The Grizzlies just couldn't get the monkey off their back, that primate had help wearing a zebra shirt, despite outplaying the Chicago Wolves Wednesday night in a 3-2 loss that extended their road losing skid to 13 straight games.

Chicago took the early lead on the power play in the first period when Greg Hawgood snuck to the backdoor and took a pass from J.P. Vigier directing it in for his third goal of the season Vigier and Tommi Santala drew the assists. Utah outshot the Grizzlies 11-7 in the period.

The Grizzlies controlled play in the second period outgunning the Wolves 14-11 and having the better chances but for the second straight game against Utah Michael Garnett was sharp in net turning aside all 25 shots he faced through two periods. David LeNeveu had made 17 saves on 18 shots through two frames.

Utah took over momentum in the third period with hard-working goal by Randall Gelech who crashed the net after a Dana Lattery drive and pushed the rebound by Garnett for his team leading 10th goal of the season at the 3:05 mark tying the game at one goal apiece. The Grizzlies would gain their first lead of the game at the 12:18 mark when Kiel McLeod would beat Travis Roche to the goal and beat Garnett for his eighth goal of the season assisted by Keith Ballard.

With Utah leading 2-1, referee Dean Morton called Ballard for a five-minute high sticking penalty that the Wolves scored twice on, Cory Larose and Tommi Santala, regaining their lead at 3-2 which is where it would finish.

LeNeveu made 31 saves and Garnett made 29 saves as Chicago eventually outshot the Grizzlies 34-31. The Grizzlies finished the night 1 for 7 on the power play and Chicago ended the game 3 for 8.

Utah will face Grand Rapids on Friday night in the Van Andel Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM (mst).
