February 10, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND –The Cleveland Barons have teamed up with the Doug Dieken Foundation for the fourth consecutive year to support the Cleveland Public Schools Special Olympics Program. The Doug Dieken Foundation and the Cleveland Barons will host "A Night with the Cleveland Barons" at Windows On The River on Wednesday, March 2nd from 6-9pm.

The Barons and Doug Dieken Foundation have collected a variety of sports memorabilia, restaurant packages, and entertainment packages that will be open for bidding. The items will be bid on through a live auction, a silent auction, and a Chinese raffle. Doug Dieken, radio color commentator for the Cleveland Browns, and Jamie Smock, Radio Voice of the Cleveland Barons, will emcee the event. In addition, one member of the Cleveland Barons roster or coaching staff will be seated at each table.

The Doug Dieken Foundation was started by Dieken in 1997 after witnessing the impact the Special Olympics program had on his brother, who is developmentally disabled. In response to a lack of city funding for the program, the Doug Dieken Foundation began co-sponsoring a variety of events. The Annual Doug Dieken Auction has become the cornerstone of a foundation that serves as the primary support for the Cleveland Public Schools Special Olympics Program.

Matt Carkner, the Barons captain, and his wife Kary sit on the Board of Directors for the event. Carkner's philanthropic efforts towards the city of Cleveland are well documented. The fourth-year Barons defenseman also organizes the annual Carkner's Christmas event with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cleveland and will have his head shaved on March 26th to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

"This event has grown each year and we are looking to eclipse our previous efforts this year," stated Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons. "We are extremely happy to partner with Doug in this endeavor. The athletes are truly special and deserve the proper equipment and facilities to participate in the sports of their choice."

Tickets for the event are available by calling the Barons front office at 216-420-0000. Tickets ordered will be held at the will call window at Windows On The River until the night of the event. A photo ID is required for pick up.

Barons tickets can be purchased at all TicketMaster Outlets, the Gund Arena Box Office, and charge-by-phone by calling 216-241-5555. More information about the Barons is available by calling 216-420-0000 or by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
